Kent Orienteering League - Beacon Wood

Dartford Orienteers invite you to an event in this attractive park with a lake in its centre and runnable woods surrounding it. Newcomers are welcome and guidance on what to do will be provided both in advance and on the day.

Entries are being kept open as we have maps available on each course but please enter before you leave home as we will not be taking cash entries at the event. This will also guarantee you a map for the course of your choice.

We are offering a range of Line courses and a 60 minute Score course so there's a course suitable for all ages and levels of experience.

Yellow 1.5km 20m climb
Controls (checkpoints) are easy to find, mostly on paths, ideal for younger children and complete beginners.

Orange 2.3km 25m climb
Controls are on or near paths with some route choice. Good for progressing juniors and adults who are reasonably confident reading a map.

60 mins Score
All distances on the above Line courses are measured in straight lines.

On this Score course, the controls (10 points each) will be in three sets, numbered in the 50's, 60's and 70's. No set course to follow. Find as many controls in any one set then move to a different set and finish on the final set. You have a time limit of 60 minutes with penalties (5 points per minute or part minute late) for exceeding the allocated time.

For a group, only one person needs to enter but after the surname please type "+2" say to indicate that this is a group of three people participating together. One map will be issued to the group but extra maps can be provided on request to the organiser in advance at £1 each if there are still maps available for that course.

Juniors are under 21 on 31st December.
