This is the 5th event in MV's 2026 summer series. Explore Horton Country Park, with its history of former railway tracks serving the former hospital sites. It's a rural landscape of fields, hedgerows, ancient woods and ponds of great wildlife and historical interest. The site achieved Local Nature Reserve Status in 2004.
The summer series events are a great introduction to orienteering for all abilities and a good opportunity to get out and about midweek for a bit of training.

Series information: The 2026 Summer Series is weekly across June and July at local venues within the Mole Valley area. All events have a 1 hour score course. Your map will show a number of controls but you don't have to visit each one. This means that there is no set course, you just visit as many controls as you want/can within a 60 minute limit. Most events will also have a simple line course (yellow / orange standard). All the events are operated on the maprun app.
For most events, the Start and Finish will be located in the outside area of a pub which will also offer food. For others, bring a picnic/BYO!
Online entries close 4pm on the day of the event but
please get entries in early for map printing purposes. Early means 3 days before please!
The MV summer evening series is free to MV members and each event costs very little for non-members to enter (entering the whole series? cheaper to
become a member!). Like our winter series, it’s app-based (MapRun) and suitable for newcomers, improvers and more experienced orienteers. A great opportunity to take a step up to navigating confidently with a map in parklands. Entries via racesignup. The events in the series are:
Monday 8 June – Claremont Fan Court School, Esher
Monday 15 June – Epsom (western urban parks)
Monday 22 June – The Nower, Dorking
Thursday 2 July – Ashtead and the Common
Wednesday 8 July – Horton Country Park, Epsom
Wednesday 15 July – Oaks Park, Woodmansterne
and there may be a bonus event too, on 22 July – watch this space!
