Timings
EOD Registration: From 18.20 to 19:05
Starts from 18:30 to 19:15
Courses close: 20:15 at which point controls will be collected in and all should have reported back to registration.
Courses and map availability
There will be 2 sprint courses:
Long: 35 maps
Short: 15 maps
Long (Sprint) course 3.2km, 35m climb. Short course 2.1km, 25m climb.
These are "straight-line" distances - you will need to run further.
A dibber is required for the start and finish on both courses. On the long course there will be three randomly placed controls for you to punch.
Terrain
Parkland with a few areas of woodland. Very few steep forest slopes and possible stream crossing, only if you are on the long (sprint) course.
The long (sprint) course goes onto a few quiet streets outside of the park. The short course is fully in the park.
Safety
Long (sprint) course suitable for over 16s, or under 16s accompanied by an adult, as it involves crossing streets (although they are minor and usually quiet).
Short course suitable for all ages – under 16s can run unaccompanied as it does not involve crossing streets.
It is a public park, so you will encounter members of the public, dogs, and so on. Sports matches may be taking place on the pitches; please be sensible and run around (the rugby pitch and cricket square are marked as out of bounds anyway).
Courses have been planned so that shorts are suitable, although you may find a shorter (but probably not faster) route by hacking through some undergrowth.
Clothing and equipment
The long course will have three random controls on which you have to look out for so you will need to bring or hire a dibber.
Shorts may be worn at your discretion. Whistles should be carried. In adverse weather we may ask you to wear a cagoule or similar waterproof top.
