Craigmillar Castle Park Local Event (Come-and-Try-It)

o Initial advance entries close at midnight on Monday 2nd March. From then until midnight on Thursday 5th March entries will be limited as maps will have been ordered.

Entry on the Day (EOD) will be accepted at the event subject to maps being available (these may not be waterproof in some cases) - payment by card or cash (or bank transfer after). You are encouraged to pre-enter to guarantee a map.

Public Liability Insurance: Please note: Participants who are not members of either British Orienteering or Scottish Orienteering are not covered by their respective public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered..

To become a member of an orienteering club, such as Interlopers, which includes membership of British Orienteering and/or Scottish Orienteering visit our website or ask at Registration. There are many benefits of being a member of an orienteering club and one of these is lower entry fees at most events.

Courses

Yellow 2.0km 50m climb
Entered: 13 of 17
Uses linear features like paths, walls, and streams. Designed for under 12s and family groups.

Orange 2.9km 75m climb
Entered: 10 of 15
Involves basic use of the compass and route choice. Ideal for competent youngsters or novice adults.

Red 4.6km 115m climb
Entered: 5 of 7
Involves basic use of the compass and route choice. Ideal for novice adults who would like a longer run with simpler navigation. There is a timed-out, unmanned, road crossing, so this course is not suitable for unaccompanied Under-16s.

Light Green 3.8km 110m climb
Entered: 8 of 14
Uses simple contour and point features. Ideal for improvers as the navigational difficulty begins to increase.

Green 4.6km 140m climb
Entered: 20 of 22
Hard navigational difficulty. Mostly used by experienced under 18s and adults wanting a challenging course.

Blue (hardest) 5.5km 160m climb
Entered: 15 of 26
Hard navigational difficulty. Mostly used by experienced under 18s and adults wanting a challenging course. This course includes a timed-out, unmanned, road crossing, so is not suitable for unaccompanied Under-16s. This course also has more than 30 controls so you will need an SI dibber (timing card) with enough capacity. Hire dibbers will work.


All courses except red and blue are suitable for unaccompanied under-16s. The red and blue courses have a timed-out road crossing, situated at a pedestrian crossing.
Entry Fees
Senior: £6.00/£8.00
Junior/Student: £3.00/£4.00

Juniors are under 26 on 31st December.

Young adults under 26 pay junior rates, as do Students if they tick the 'Are you a Student?' box on the entry form.

Pairs / Groups / Families running together should make a single entry. Enter the name of your lead navigator then add the additional names in the box below. There is a final box for your group / family name that will be displayed on the results (otherwise it will be the lead navigator's name). You get one map with your entry, and can request up to 4 additional maps (towards bottom of form) at £1 each.

Timing Device (Dibber) Hire - SI dibbers are available to hire free of charge but there is a £30 charge if lost. Air dibbers, if offered, cost £2.50 to hire, and there is a £60 charge if lost.

Shadowing - if you are following ('shadowing') another runner but not competing, you can order an extra map (£1 per map).
