Event Information

Venue
Great Ridge ST 927345 - a forest to the North of the A303, between Chicklade and Wylye . Post Code SP3 5SY

Car Parking
Signed off the A303 near Chicklade OS Sheet 184 GR ST927345 Post code SP3 5SY (Bake Barn) (W3W: electrode.overlook.books ) - ( see map at end of Flyer). The A303 is a fast road and care needs to be taken when turning off it from whichever direction you come. There will be warning signs on the A303 to warn of the approach. Access is via a farm track which is generally in good condition but with a few noteworthy pot holes and ramps!

Parking for cars will be on the grass verges at the side of the main entrance track -
Mini buses and camper vans should expect to park at the Barn on the entrance track and then walk about 700 metres up to the wood.
Parking is next to Assembly. The Start will be about 200m from Assembly; the Finish about 250m away from Assembly.
The Exit is back out of the same gateway so all are asked to arrive by 12.00 and no departures until 12.15, please.
Take care exiting onto the A303 as it is a very busy, fast road. Turning left is the safest option
(Car parking will be tight, please car share where you can)

Club Tents
There will be space for Club tents in Assembly. The area is next to the parking.

Map/Terrain
Map updated in early 2022 by Mapworks.
Great Ridge is a working Forest with many rides. There has been much recent and on-going forestry work - the map has been recently updated to incorporate these areas.
Courses have been planned to avoid the worst brashing areas.

Elite classes :1:15,000; Courses 13,14,17,18,19 will be 1:7500; all other courses: 1:10,000 All with 5m contours; waterproof maps.
Control descriptions are on the map. Loose control descriptions will be in the
start lanes. The White & Yellow courses have written descriptions.

Courses
When you enter, please select the Age Class that you wish to run in. Please note the the Eligibility Criteria for the Southern Championship ( under Eligibility Information below) if you wish to compete for the Trophies and podium places.

A few colour coded courses are also available (non- championship)

Timings/ Start times
Assembly opens: 09.30 - Hired dibbers available next to Download.
Lost Hire dibbers charge - £65.
Limited Entry on the day for the Colour Coded courses until 11.30
depending on map numbers - entry via Race Sign Up is preferred/
otherwise cash only, please. EOD entry is not eligible for Championship
prizes.

Starts: 10.00 -13.00: Choose a Start time block (Very Early/ Early/Middle/Late/ Very late or Any if you are undecided!). Actual Start times will be subject to seeding where applicable and published on this website after the Entry closing date. It is a timed Start, not a punching Start, for all competitive courses - do not be late for your Start - your time will not be changed except in extreme circumstances!

Timing system
We are using the SI timing system. The Controls are SIAC enabled. Hired Dibbers are SIAC enabled .
Courses 1 & 2 have more than 30 controls; Course 3 has 29 controls - please make sure that you have a dibber that can record that many controls.

It is a timed Start, not a punching Start - so do not be late for your Start time! Your time will not be altered except in extreme circumstances.

The Finish control MUST be punched by everybody.

Southern Championships Eligibility
You can enter any age Class, but to be eligible for Championship Trophies and podium places, you must enter the age Class matching your Age and Sex or 'run-up'. Eligibility also requires you to be member of British Orienteering and a member of one of its Southern regional Associations: SCOA,SEOA,SWOA. Furthermore, Trophies and other prizes are only awarded to competitors in the highest category (Elite, Long or A) of each Age Class.

Running up
M class competitors can only run up to M class courses.
W class competitors may run up to W or M class courses.
Competitors in age classes from 10 to 18 may run up to an older age class.
Competitors in age classes from 35 to 90 may run up to a younger age class.
The British Orienteering Trans policy applies.
When you run up you are not competing in your 'own' age class.

Prize Giving
Prize giving will be in Assembly in an area east of Download. The timing of the Ceremony is still being decided and will be in the Final details, published after Entries close.

Conduct
Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Facilities
Catering - Tom's Continental Catering + SW Junior Squad Cake stall; Orienteering Equipment retailer - Compass Point; Toilets; First Aid - all at Assembly

Safety
• Kit - Full body cover required – legs and torso, as defined by BO.
• Whistles - Whistles are obligatory for all and will be checked.
• Weather - In the event of extreme wet, cold or windy weather. you will be required to carry or wear a cagoule. A decision will be made, based on the then Met Office forecast, and signed at the event
• Solo runners - If you are travelling and running alone, you may wish to leave details of yourself and your car with enquiries.
• Medical conditions - Competitors with existing medical conditions are asked to provide a sealed envelope with their name and club on the outside, and the medical condition explained inside plus details of medication and dosage. Spare forms and envelopes will be available at Registration. The envelope will only be opened in an emergency. The envelope is to be handed in to Registration for safe keeping before competitors start their runs.

Dogs
Dogs are welcome but must be on leads at all times and not on courses

Finish and Download
After punching at the Finish, please make your way to Download - you must Download even if you do not finish your course.

Take your splits print and leave your dibber if you hired one. Have a safe journey home.

Results
Live Results will be available at the event. They will be published on the Sarum website the same evening (hopefully). Routegadget will also be available by the end of the day.

Risk
Orienteering is an adventure sport; you are responsible for your own safety at the event and must not do anything that puts yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
