Terrain: Mixed! Open grassland of the golf course, small areas of woodland, some rhododendrons, and a small urban area.

OS Grid Ref: NS561743

Starts between18:30 -19:00. Courses close at 20:00.

Electronic timing for start and finish. Reflective markers, but no SI units, at the controls.

Terrain: This area is small (ca. 1×1.5 km) but has it all: open grassland of the golf course, lots of little hills, a cliff, west coast rain forest, swamps, and a small residential area with little alleyways. Unfortunately, it also has a lot of rhododendron growth, which has been reasonably but not perfectly mapped. The area would probably be a bit too easy in daylight but is perfectly suited for night orienteering. Do not underestimate it, it’s got punch…!

Novice, nervous or gregarious people are encouraged to go round in pairs/trios if they want to.

Head torch compulsory.

Map
1:7,500 map to ISOM 2017-2 standard by Klaas Wynne (2024). Uses 5m contours and 2.5m form lines. The course maps will be A4 and printed on waterproof paper. The control descriptions will be printed on the map (no loose control descriptions).

If you’re not currently a member of British Orienteering (BOF), you won’t be covered by the club’s public liability insurance for this event. You’re very welcome to take part, but please be aware that you do so at your own risk.

Long course - do not underestimate, this will be tough by "park" standards.
Medium - has the same tough long leg as Long but uses a few shortcuts to make it shorter.
Short - designed to yellow standard (easy-ish), mostly on paths except for 5-6-7. Control 8 is spooky...

SPORTIdent for the start and finish but controls simply indicated by reflective tape. We will have SIs for hire for £1 - there is a £30 charge if lost.
