Essex Winter Midweek Series will run over the winter of 2025/26. This will consist of 10 night street O events organised by HAVOC & SOS using Maprun but it is also possible to take part without using Maprun
Save £10 and get automatic entry to all 10 events

Points will be awarded based on finishing times adjusted using an age/gender handicap system. Each missed or incorrect control will incur a 5 minutes penalty. Best 6 results from the series will count. On-the-night bonus of 15 points per event for those running on the night, opposed to MapRun catchup. 7min penalty for Anytime. A second run on any particular course will not count for scoring purposes.

Full results will be emailed and published on the SOS and HAVOC websites.

For this year we are using a Score based format for many of the events. This will have one map, but two time limits - Short (40 mins), Long (60 mins)
However, a different format may be used for some events. Full details will be on the individual event webpage.

Entry Fees
Senior: £30.00/£40.00
Junior/Student: £15.00

Juniors are under 21 on 31st December.

Lower entry fee for British Orienteering affiliated runners.
Event Information

Timing
Start at times between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
Competitors must report to the finish by 8.45pm.

Open Orienteering style map commonly at scale 1:10000 or 1:7500
Controls are fire hydrants or other street furniture.
Events will be run using Maprun. Printed maps will be provided at the start.
You can still run without using Maprun but note that it is slower. Timing will be manual. Please bring pen or pencil to record the lower number on the hydrant.
The course is on roads, pavements and paths. Please wear suitable footwear.
Newcomers welcome. Help and guidance provided.

Safety
Participation is at your own risk. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
Bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.
These are night events. A head or hand torch are compulsory.
As with any street orienteering participants will be required to cross roads and you are asked to take due care and attention at all times. High visibility clothing is strongly recommended.
There may be dog walkers, cyclists or residents on pavements and footpaths – be aware and give them priority.
