Welcome to newest south coast 10k at the internationally renowned Marwell Zoo at Owslebury, Hampshire. We are delighted that each year the race will be supporting the conservation of an endangered species, and this year we’ll be running to protect the Amur tigers in Bhutan.

The Marwell 10K is back! This unique road race is returning to Marwell Zoo in Winchester, Hampshire. Each year, the race supports the conservation of an endangered species, and this year we’ll be running to support Marwell Wildlife’s innovative tiger conservation project in Bhutan.
Marwell Wildlife (registered charity no. 275433) is a conservation and education charity, with projects spanning the globe as well as right here in the South of England.
This undulating course, including a hill into Owslebury village, starts at the zoo before heading out into the village and the glorious surrounding countryside, then returns to finish with a loop through the zoo.
We are thrilled to have been given special permission by Marwell Wildlife to stage an event that both starts and finishes within the zoo. In partnership with Hedge End Running Club and the many local community groups and organisations who help deliver the event, we are delighted to welcome you to one of Hampshire’s top attractions and a globally recognised conservation zoo.
All runners will receive a bespoke medal, themed on the tiger. You can also opt to receive a tiger themed t-shirt as a memento of your run.
We have also agreed with Marwell that all runners will receive FREE entry to the zoo after the race; so why not plan a family day out to see Marwell’s Amur tiger and learn more about conservation efforts in Hampshire and around the world, including the protection of tigers in Bhutan, or stop by the coffee shop for a slice of cake to celebrate your achievement and create some truly unique running memories.
Why we are running
Tiger populations continue to decline globally, with fewer than 5,000 animals remaining in the wild. Despite ongoing conservation efforts, persecution and habitat loss still threaten these magnificent animals. Bhutan, a country renowned for its rich biodiversity and deep cultural connection to nature, has bucked the trend – tiger numbers there have grown by 27% to around 130 individuals. But their survival is far from guaranteed.
Marwell Wildlife is working closely with local conservationists and Buddhist communities in Bhutan to develop conservation approaches that respect cultural traditions and promote coexistence between people, tigers, and other wildlife. Phase 1, funded by a generous legacy gift, documented forgotten tiger stories, rituals, and artworks across Bhutan, preserving these vital cultural connections. Now, we are ready to launch Phase 2 – turning these insights into real-world conservation actions that help people and tigers coexist. But the funding has run out and without your support we cannot continue this vital and innovative project.
