“Score” means there is no set course. Your map will show several controls, you choose which and how many to visit. You get points for each control you do visit and lose points if you take more than an hour.
Your map will show several controls, and you choose which and how many to visit. Points are gained for visiting controls and points are lost for taking more than one hour. “Waikato” scoring means some controls are only available within certain timeframe.
Venue
Registration will take place at the outdoor area of the Harrow Inn Cheam, High Street, Cheam, SM3 8RL – map, where you can leave your bags during your run, and enjoy good food and drink after your run.
The pub offers limited parking at the rear. Kingsway Road car park (3min walk) offers an evening tariff of £1.50 between 18:30 and 20:00 – map. Closest railway station is Cheam, follow Station Way from north exit (5min walk).
Map
A4 1:10,000 scale waterproof orienteering map. Example (blank) map at registration. We can explain map colours and symbols to newcomers.
Partially wooded parkland with extensive path network. The score course contains routes with long grass / nettles near some controls – leg cover advised.
Timing
The event will be set up on MapRun (and MapRunG for some smartwatches).
Please note that this is a 'virtual' event using MapRun to track your progress and result rather than any other electronic recording devices.
Please ensure you are using the latest version of the app and arrive with the course pre-downloaded from the folder UK > Mole Valley > Summer Series 2025.
Safety
Please report to Registration before you leave, even if you decide to abandon your run.
Starts
6.30 - 7.30 pm. Courses close at 8.40 pm. Report to Registration by 8.45pm.
Results
Provisional results will be available on the MapRun app as the event progresses and on the club website soon after the event.
Conduct
Please make yourself aware of and follow the British Orienteering guide for participants (revised August 2021).
You are responsible for your own safety and you take part in this event at your own risk.
Medical Conditions
If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.
