Suitable for all. Find up to 20 Controls in any order within a time limit of 45 minutes. Each Control is worth 10 points. Points will be deducted if you take longer than 45 minutes.

Juniors are under 21 on 31st December.

Students are competitors over the age of 20 still in full-time education. Please check STUDENT on the Entry Form if this applies.

Seniors will be charged the Novice entry fee on Yellow and Orange courses only.

Helpers are entitled to 50% discount on entry fee (please contact Organiser for discount code).

Discounts do not apply to SI hire (lost dibber charges £40)
SI hire dibbers will be non-SIAC

Non members of the British Orienteering Federation (BOF) will incur an additional £1 fee in all categories to compensate for the increased levies paid by NWO to BOF for unaffiliated competitors.

GROUPS
You can enter as a GROUP on any of the courses. You will be charged an additional £1.50 (Novice Courses) or £3 (all other courses) no matter how large your group is and will receive 2 maps (but only one SI dibber should be used - don't forget to hire one if you don't own one).
N.B. Only one member of each group needs to enter, but for insurance purposes please could you provide the names of the people in your group on the entry form. For mixed groups of Seniors and Juniors, a Senior should make the entry to make sure that you are being charged the correct fee.
GROUP entries will be shown as non-competitive in the results to make it fair on those running as INDIVIDUALS.

Location
The Defence Academy, Shrivenham is located northeast of Shrivenham, adjacent to the village of Watchfield, just off the A420 between Swindon and Oxford.

Turn off the A 420 at the Watchfield roundabout and follow signs to the Defence Academy. The Academy is accessed using the Main Entrance only.

Parking
Access will be strictly controlled.
  • Hardcopy Photo ID will be required on the day for all personnel entering the establishment even if not competing - the only exceptions will be for juniors under the age of 16 accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • Park initially in the visitors' car park then proceed to Security where you will be photographed for an entry pass and given a car pass. You will then be guided in a marshalled convoy to the event car park.
    THERE WILL BE NO ACCESS FOR COMPETITORS UNTIL 10.15
    Registration will be in the Beckett Pavilion which is 50m from the event car park.
    Start Times
    Start times: 11:00 - 12:00
    Courses close: 14:00
  • Please allow plenty of time to be processed by Security and then wait for cars to follow in convoy to the parking area
  • It will be a punching start. No start times will be allocated.
  • Facilities
    Toilet facilities will be available in the Beckett Pavilion.
    There will be no refreshment facilities.

    Entry
    On-line entry only - Final Entry closes at 23.59 on 11-10-2026.

  • You can amend your entry to change course until 23:59 on 11-10-2026.
  • If you have entered as a Senior Novice (Y/O) please do not change to one of the more difficult courses as the fees are higher.
  • Refund Policy
    You may withdraw from the event up until 23:59 on 11-10-2026. Your entry fee will be held as a credit to be redeemed when you next enter an NWO event.
    Timing System
    The timing system being used is SportIdent (SI).
    Controls will be SIAC enabled for those with compatible dibbers (unless otherwise notified on the day of the event). Hire dibbers will be SI-Card 8 (non-SIAC).
  • Competitors with their own SI Dibber can proceed directly to the start.
  • Hire dibbers can be picked up from the table next to download.
  • Map
    Scale 1:4,000, 5m contours. Based on 2022 Map with updates.
    Overprinted with course on waterproof paper with control descriptions on the front. Yellow, Orange and Score courses will have written descriptions; Blue, Green and Short Green have pictorial descriptions. Loose control descriptions will be available at the start.
    Out of Bounds area to be strictly observed.
    Terrain
    Mainly flat college campus urban area with some small wooded areas, streams and small lakes.
    Courses
    All course distances/climbs/controls are provisional and subject to final planning/controlling amendments.
    Hazards
    All courses cross roads on the campus. Road crossings will not be manned but traffic should be light and restricted to 20mph.
    Results
    Results, Splits and Routegadget will be available on the North Wiltshire Orienteers website as soon as practicable after the event
    Conduct
    Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.
    Clothing and equipment
  • Yellow, Orange, Short Green and Green courses are mainly on roads and tracks but the Blue and Score courses will include some wooded areas where leg cover is advisable.
  • Whistles MUST be carried and will be checked at the start. (Available for £1 from Information/Download)
  • In adverse weather we may ask you to wear a cagoule or similar waterproof top.
  • Dogs
    NO DOGS are permitted in the Defence Academy grounds.
    Safety
  • All competitors MUST report to Download even if retiring from the event.
  • Car keys may be left at registration. If you are travelling alone, you must leave your car keys at registration.
  • Participants to bring their own water and ensure adequate hydration pre and post event.
  • First Aid will be available near download.
  • Orienteering is a physically challenging sport, and competitors take part at their own risk.
  • The nearest A&E Hospital is at Swindon Great Western Hospital SN3 6BB.
  • Insurance
    PLEASE NOTE: As of January 2026 participants who are not members of British Orienteering are no longer covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event as a non-member, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered. Please make sure that you have renewed your membership or consider joining if you are not already a member. Non-members will still be charged a supplement to cover increased levies payable by NWO.
    Medical Conditions
    If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.

    Cancellation Policy
    NWO will make every effort to ensure the event goes ahead as planned. However, should the event be cancelled, NWO reserves the right to retain part of the advance entry fees to meet costs already incurred or committed.
