Event Information

Final Details
These are the final details for the event they will be emailed to the email addresses given on entry on Friday 9th July.

Directions
The event centre will be in the Overflow Car Park (parking is free) of Charlton Sports and Leisure Centre, West Portway Business Park, Andover SP10 3LF, What3Words: cycles.toast.fussy. Exit the A303 at the Andover, Newbury, Devizes (A343/A342) junction, then at the adjacent roundabout take the northern A343 Ring Road (second exit) towards the Portway Business Park, at the next roundabout take the first left towards Charlton Sports Centre, the entrance to the allocated car park is second on the right, signed The Sports Academy.

Map/Areas
1:5,000 courses 1 to 3 are on A3 waterproof paper and course 4 to 7 on A4 waterproof paper, 5m contours. Map updated and significantly extended in Autumn 2019 with minor updates in June 2021, area comprises Andover West housing estates, Portway Industrial Park and Charlton Lakes and parkland. Please respect all other users.

Climb in the areas is minimal so is not shown on control descriptions.

Non Standard Symbol on the map - purple DOT represents Lifebelt stands at the lakes, they are NOT used as control sites.

Courses
Due to road crossings on all other courses, those under 16 on the day of competition must run one of the junior classes unless shadowed by an adult. Beginners are very welcome.

Start/Finish
Punching start adjacent to the car park, just turn up for your allocated slot time, collect eTag and go!

Touch free EMIT will be used on all courses. Everyone must report promptly to Download (at Registration van) afterwards!! The actual finish location will be close to the car park.

Registration
10:30 to 12:30 The EMIT van will be located in the car park. Pick up your eTag from a BADO helper on arrival.

Starts
11:00 to 13:00. Adequately spaced queue is mandatory.

Courses close
Promptly at 14:30 please. You must report to download before you leave the event.

Facilities
Toilet access has been made available, courtesy of Test Valley Borough Council, within the Athletics Track admin building. This is located due East (120 metres) from our car park entrance. Please take care of the traffic.

Limited First Aid only, A&E facility is near at hand (on the map!).

We will not be able to offer the usual refreshments, so please bring your own, especially plenty of liquid refreshments.

There is a Café in the Park a short walk from the car park 400m away. Please observe the COVID rules and guidelines in force at the time.

Conduct
Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Safety
All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Please take extra care at this time in a very public location. When signing up please note the COVID rules and of course you must adhere to them on the day. If in doubt regarding your health, do not attend.

There are 2 exits from the North Side of the park that are hazardous to cross, there is a shallow stream and a steep bank that is covered in nettles to cross. The easy route over the bridge has been marked as an optional crossing.

Dogs
Dogs are welcome out on the courses, but only on leads please.

Fences and OOB
Double tagged fences must not be crossed. Do not cross any thing marked with a thick black line or with impassable vegetation. All OOB areas must be avoided and respected.

NOTE: All school grounds MUST NOT BE ENTERED, whether OOB on the map or not.

Risk
Orienteering is an adventure sport; you are responsible for your own safety at the event and must not do anything that puts yourself or others at unnecessary risk. Mission critical during COVID restrictions!

Signifcant water hazards exist in Charlton Lakes parkland area, please take care and consider the bridges as the prudent route.
