Event Information

Safety
You must not attend if you or a member of your household has COVID-19 symptoms, or if you have been asked to isolate by NHS Test and Trace or if you are required to quarantine after returning from overseas

You must adhere to the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Event centre
The event centre including parking is located at the new visitor centre beyond the barrier to the entrance to Ranscombe Farm Reserve by special permission. The entrance will be manned and only mountain bike event participants will be allowed past this point.

No refreshments will be provided so please bring any food and drinks you need for the ride. Toilets are available.

Entries
If you wish to compete together as a group, only one entry is needed (and hence one fee) but please add "+x" after the surname of the entrant so we know how many are expecting to participate in the group e.g. for a group of 4 the entry would be Surname +3.

The entry fee includes the cost of hiring an electronic finger for registering your presence at each control you visit

If you are a member of West Kent Downs Countryside Trust, enter WKDCT2407 for a £2 discount if you choose

If you are a member of the British Mountain Bike Orienteering Association, enter BMBO2407 for a £2 discount if you choose

Additional donations to the cause are gratefully received.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for the highest number of checkpoints visited. Time will be taken into account if more than one competitor visits all of the checkpoints. There are prizes for a child friendly nature quiz which can be completed during the event. There will also be spot prizes drawn randomly from all entries.

Map
The map is an orienteering style map with a legend explaining the symbols used. It will be printed at a scale of 1:10,000 on waterproof paper. Contours lines are shown at 5 metre intervals. There will be 30 checkpoints; you choose how many and which ones to visit as you ride.

Control descriptions
Control descriptions are printed on the map. Loose control descriptions will be available online as a pdf accessible from the front event page of the DFOK website but will not be available at the event.

Information for Newcomers to map reading events
For those new to orienteering, as coaching face to face is currently limited due to Covid restrictions, you may want to check out the video
Getting Started. The video describes what to do at a foot orienteering event but the principles are the same for this mountain bike event.

Equipment
We recommend the use of a well maintained mountain bike, gravel bike or hybrid bikes with off road tyres for this event. There are no public roads within the course. We recommend that you carry basic tools and spares for puncture repairs etc. e-bikes are permitted but separate rules may apply. You may need to carry bikes over gates or obstructions on the course.

Results
We hope to be able to show live results at the event accessible by scanning a QR code using your mobile phone. Unless Government Covid guidance changes before the event it may not be possible to have a live prize giving on the day.
