There will be White, Yellow and Orange courses for those fairly new to orienteering and for those who have done some courses before and are now improvers. There will also be a green course for more experienced orienteers. The terrain includes woodland, parkland and complex buildings.

We have SI dibbers for hire free of charge but there is a £30 charge if lost. You carry the dibber with you so that we can time you around the course.

Directions
Head for the car park for the Mary Erskine Sports Centre which is entered from Craigleith Rise, off Ravelston Dykes. You can also park in the surrounding streets. If you choose this option please be considerate of local residents.

You should be able to get close to this event by bus. Check out Lothian Buses for information about services.

Registration and Start Times
This event will be based at, or very close to, Sports Centre building within the School grounds.

STARTS will be from 1.30pm to 3pm.

Pre-entry is required but everyone is welcome whether a relative newcomer or have been to a lot of events. If you are a relative newcomer and think you might take quite a long time on your course please try to get an early start time so that you can concentrate without worrying so much about the course closure time.

Course Information
This will be ESOC's first traditional local event post Covid restrictions and, as was usual for ESOC local events pre-Covid, there will be White, Yellow and Orange courses for those fairly new to orienteering and for those who have done some courses before and are now improvers. There will also be a green course more experienced orienteers. The terrain includes woodland, parkland and complex buildings.

Entry Details
SportIdent (SI) electronic timing will be used. If you have your own SI (dibber) please provide details on the entry form and remember to bring it with you! We also have SIs for hire free of charge but there is a £30 charge if lost.

General Information
Dress: Please check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. The ground could be muddy and slippery so please be prepared for this.

Terrain: School grounds (iuncluding buildings for courses for experienced orienteers) and adjoining woodland.

Other Users: There are likely to be other sports users around the pitches of the Sports Centre and School. Ravelston Woods are used by the general public, including those with young children using the adjacent playpark, and dog walkers. Please respect their right to be there at the same time as you are orienteering.

Dogs: Dogs allowed on leads in the car park only. Not to be taken into the school grounds at all.

Course Closure Time: Please note that courses have a closure time of 4pm after which controls will start to be brought in. See note below about trying to get an early start time if you think you might take a long time out on your course.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS: You have the option of downloading and completing this Medical Form. It could be life saving if the organisers are aware of any existing medical conditions in the event of an incident. You can put it in a sealed envelope and hand it to the Organiser on the day. It will only be opened if required and destroyed or handed back to you after the event.

COVID 19: You should not attend the event if you are showing any symptoms of Covid 19 even though you have pre-entered. You should also not attend if you have specifically been asked to quarantine or self-isolate. The event will be managed to take account of all Government and Scottish Orienteering Guidelines relevant at the time.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.
