Event Information

Location
The car park and event centre are at Janesmoor Pond car park,1km South of Fritham. Grid Ref: SU247136. Nearest postcode: SO43 7HH (the event centre is about 1km south of here).

Travel Directions
If travelling from North or East of the area, leave the M27 at Junction 1 and follow the brown leisure signs towards Ocknell Campsite. The Janesmoor Pond Car park is on the left about 1.5km before Ocknell Campsite entrance.

If traveling from the West, turn left off the A31 at grid SU256116, as indicated by the brown leisure sign to Ocknell Campsite. Pass the entrance to Ocknell campsite on your left and continue for about 1.5km where you will find the Janesmoor Pond car park on your right.

Parking
We will be sharing the Janesmoor Pond car park with the public. This car park is divided into two separate parts. Initially we will sign the entrance to the larger Northern part. If this part is full you can try to park in the Southern part.

If you find there is no space at Janesmoor Pond, please park in one of the other nearby public car parks (Stoney Cross Plain or Stoney Cross) which are further South along the road.

Toilets and First Aid only.
Please bring your own drinks to ensure you are well hydrated.

Online entry only. No entry on the day.

Timing System
EMIT card.

Hire cards should be collected from the Enquiries / Download tent which will be located beside the car park.

Terrain
Terrain is generally runnable. Kings Garn is a mixed coniferous / deciduous inclosure. Castle Malwood is a mixture of deciduous woodland and fast open heathland.

Conditions are somewhat wet and muddy in places after recent storms as is typical of the New Forest at this time of year. Footwear with good grip is strongly recommended.

Conduct
Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct (revised August 2021).

Clothing and equipment
Full leg cover must be worn. Whistles should be carried. In adverse weather we may ask you to wear a cagoule or similar waterproof top.

Bio-security
Please come to the event with clean and dry shoes and clothing. After your run please follow the guidance that helps us protect our precious environment: Check - Clean - Dry.

Dogs
Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.

Hazards
Please be aware of the risk of ticks and Lymes disease. The area is grazed by ponies and cattle: do not approach or feed them. Dog walkers and horse riders also use the area, so please be respectful and cautious around their animals.

Safety
The safety bearing is West to the secondary road which can be followed North to the event centre.

Look out for cyclists and the possibility of cars near the start on forest roads.

All competitors MUST report to Download even if retiring from the event.

Lone competitors are recommended to leave car keys or a valuable item at Enquiries / Download.

Orienteering is a physically challenging sport, and competitors take part at their own risk.

Risk Assessment
A comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the organiser and will be available to read at the event. Participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event.

Photography
Photography is not allowed in the toilets or any "changing area" including the car park. Any concerns with photography or the behaviour of anyone toward any child or young adult must be reported to the event organiser or other official. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, play your part, report any concerns and follow good practice.

Insurance
The British Orienteering insurance policy provides public liability cover. Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events and have not joined an orienteering club that is a member of British Orienteering, then you are not covered by this insurance.

Medical Conditions
If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.
