Novice Courses for Seniors are Yellow & Orange.

If you wish to enter as a family group please select FAMILY from the pull down list at the top of the form when you enter and choose the Yellow or Orange Course. You will be charged a single fee of £4.00 no matter how large your group is and will receive 1 map. Don't forget to hire a dibber if you do not own one. For insurance purposes please could you provide the names of the people in your group when collecting your EMIT card. PLEASE ONLY ENTER ONE OF THE NOVICE COURSES AS A FAMILY GROUP.

Discounts do not apply to EMIT hire (lost card charges £50)
Event Information

Travel Directions
Copse Wood is located between Hungerford and Marlborough. It will be signed from the A338 between East Grafton and Shalbourne. Parking is at Hillbarn Farm approx 600m east of Wilton Windmill. Grid Reference SU 282 618. The nearest postcode is SN8 3SW. (What3Words link: conforms.helpless.animals).

Parking
There will be a charge of £1 per entry for parking. This will be matched by NWO and the landowner. All proceeds will go to Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Parking will be on hard standing but is limited. Please park sensibly and do not obstruct access. Large vehicles eg camper vans to be avoided.
Please car share where possible and follow the guidance from the Marshals.

  • Start and Finish will be approx. 200m from the parking / assembly area.
  • Start Times
    Start times: 11:00 - 12:00
    Courses close: 14:00

  • Starts will be in 15 minute blocks to control the number of competitors congregating at any one time, but we will be flexible.
  • It will be a punching start.

  • Entry
    On-line entry only - open until 23.59 on 30th Jan. 2022.

  • You can only amend your entry to change Start Time or Course before the closing date.
  • If you have entered as a Senior Novice (Y/O) please do not change to one of the more difficult courses as the fees are higher.
  • Timing System

  • Competitors with their own EMIT cards can proceed directly to the start

  • Map
    Scale 1:10,000, 5m contours. Minor updates made Dec. 2021.
    Overprinted with course on waterproof paper with control descriptions on the front. Yellow and Orange courses will have written descriptions; Blue and Green have pictorial descriptions. Loose control descriptions for all courses will be available at the start.

    Terrain
    Mature broad leaved woodland with open areas and some conifer plantations. Some areas have dense bramble cover. Courses have been planned to avoid the worst of this. However, gaiters are recommended.

    Results
    Results, Splits and Routegadget will be available on the North Wiltshire Orienteers website as soon as practicable after the event

    Conduct
    Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

    Clothing and equipment

  • Full leg cover MUST be worn.
  • Whistles MUST be carried and will be checked at the start.
  • In adverse weather we may ask you to wear a cagoule or similar waterproof top
  • Bio-security
    Please come to the event with clean and dry shoes and clothing. Before leaving the event check your clothing and equipment and remove any mud, soil or leaf litter. Once home thoroughly clean your footwear and clothing and leave it to dry for as long as possible. Please take any litter home with you.

    Dogs
    Dogs are not permitted at this event.

    Hazards

  • Please be aware of the risk of ticks and Lyme disease.
  • Timber stacks may be present and should not be climbed on.
  • Dog walkers and horse riders also use the area, so please be respectful and cautious around their animals
  • Safety

  • All competitors MUST report to Download even if retiring from the event.
  • Lone competitors are recommended to leave car keys at Information/Download.
  • Participants to bring their own water and ensure adequate hydration pre and post event. Hand sanitisers will be available; however, we encourage participants to bring their own.
  • Orienteering is a physically challenging sport, and competitors take part at their own risk.
  • The nearest A&E Hospital is at Swindon Great Western Hospital SN3 6BB.
  • A minor injuries unit is available at West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thatcham RG18 3AS by appointment only (01635 273508).
  • Insurance
    The British Orienteering insurance policy provides public liability cover. Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events and have not joined an orienteering club that is a member of British Orienteering, then you are not covered by this insurance.

    Medical Conditions
    If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.

    Prior to the event, if you display symptoms (or test positive) for COVID-19, or are required to self-isolate then you must not attend. Refunds will only be given to those unable to attend for this reason.

    Cancellation Policy
    NWO will make every effort to ensure the event goes ahead as planned. However, should the event be cancelled, NWO reserves the right to retain part of the advance entry fees to meet costs already incurred or committed.
