Novice Courses for Seniors are Yellow & Orange.

If you wish to enter as a family group please select FAMILY from the pull down list at the top of the form when you enter and choose the Yellow or Orange Course. You will be charged a single fee of £4.00 no matter how large your group is and will receive 1 map. Don't forget to hire a dibber if you do not own one. For insurance purposes please could you provide the names of the people in your group when collecting your EMIT card.

Discounts do not apply to EMIT hire (lost card charges £50)

Acknowledgements
Access is by kind permission of the Swindon Borough Council, in association with the Better Haydon Centre & Gym. Beginners, family groups and wheelchair users are welcome to take part in the selected courses detailed below.

The Haydon Centre is a leisure centre located in Haydon Wick Swindon. Postcode SN25 1QQ Grid Reference SU13411 88136.

Parking
Limited parking, included disabled parking, is available in the Haydon Centre car park, accessible off Thames Avenue. If required, other parking may be available in the area. Please park sensibly and do not obstruct other users of the Haydon Centre or other facilities in the area. Please car-share if possible or use public transport.

The venue is accessible by buses 5, 11 and 16 from stops close to Swindon Rail & Bus Stations. A journey planner is available on Traveline South West http://www.travelinesw.com/

Start times: 10:30 - 12:00
Courses close: 14:00

  • Starts will be in 15 minute blocks to control the number of competitors congregating at any one time, but we will be flexible.
  • It will be a punching start.
  • Facilities
    Toilet, including disabled, facilities are available in the Haydon Centre up to 2pm. Please note there are no changing facilities available. First Aid kit and welfare facilities will be available at download.

    THERE WILL ONLY BE ENTRY ON DAY FOR YELLOW & ORANGE COURSES - SUBJECT TO MAP AVAILABILITY

  • You can only amend your entry to change Start Time or Course before the closing date.
  • If you have entered as a Senior Novice (Y/O) please do not change to one of the more difficult courses as the fees are higher.
  • Timing System
    EMIT card

  • Competitors with their own EMIT cards can proceed directly to the start
  • Hire cards can be picked up from the table next to download
  • The Yellow course is suitable for wheelchair users and can either be followed like all other courses using an Emit brikke which will require the ability to access the control sites or by using the MapRun application which will automatically detect your arrival at each control. You will need to have downloaded the application onto your phone beforehand. In either circumstance you will be provided with a paper copy of the map so will not need to rely on the phone to view and follow the map.   • Map
    A3 portrait 1:5000 scale. Contours at 5m intervals.
    Overprinted with course on waterproof paper with control descriptions on the front. Yellow and Orange courses will have written descriptions; Blue and Green have pictorial descriptions. Loose control descriptions for all courses will be available at the start.

    Terrain
    The area is a mixture of residential and commercial developments with some open parkland.

    Results
    Results, Splits and Routegadget will be available on the North Wiltshire Orienteers website as soon as practicable after the event

    Conduct
    Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

    Clothing and equipment
    Cagoules may be made compulsory in adverse weather.

    Dogs
    Dogs permitted under control in the car park. Guide and assistance dogs only are permitted on the courses.

    Hazards
    Busy roads should only be crossed at marked points.

    Safety

  • All competitors MUST report to Download even if retiring from the event.
  • Lone competitors are recommended to leave car keys at Information/Download.
  • Participants to bring their own water and ensure adequate hydration pre and post event. Hand sanitisers will be available; however, we encourage participants to bring their own.
  • Orienteering is a physically challenging sport, and competitors take part at their own risk.
  • The nearest A&E Hospital is at Swindon Great Western Hospital SN3 6BB.

    Insurance
    The British Orienteering insurance policy provides public liability cover. Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events and have not joined an orienteering club that is a member of British Orienteering, then you are not covered by this insurance.

    Medical Conditions
    If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.

    Prior to the event, if you display symptoms (or test positive) for COVID-19, or are required to self-isolate then you must not attend. Refunds will only be given to those unable to attend for this reason.

    Cancellation Policy
    NWO will make every effort to ensure the event goes ahead as planned. However, should the event be cancelled, NWO reserves the right to retain part of the advance entry fees to meet costs already incurred or committed.
