Harrogate City Race Eurotour

2023-07-16

Late Entries after Sunday 2 July will be available depending on map availability. There will be some EOD on the Short, Medium, Long and Accessible Courses only.

Eurocity comes to North Yorkshire.

Claro is delighted to welcome everyone to a weekend of exciting urban racing in the heart of North Yorkshire.

Saturday sees a sprint race around the ruined medieval castle of Knaresborough towering over the River Nidd. Expect tricky navigation with canny route choice needed to minimise your climb. This event is part of the Yorkshire Urban League.

On Sunday we will visit the beautiful spa-town of Harrogate for the very first time. A varied and intriguing race featuring the sights of the town, detailed parkland, large hotel grounds and intricate navigation in the school grounds to finish. The younger junior courses will be off-road in the school grounds so the event is ideal for families. This event is part of the Cityrace Eurotour, UK Urban League and the Yorkshire and Humberside Urban League.

To extend your stay we are offering a pack of some of our favourite local MapRuns which will be open for two weeks before and two weeks after the weekend. Map packs printed on waterproof paper will be available at £5 each. More details on the website.

Courses

NEW!!! We will have an Accessible Course available at the Harrogate event for those with limited mobility and wheelchair users. Entry is free as this course is funded by North Yorkshire County Council. To enter email the planner on eurocity@claro-orienteering.org.uk and we will send further details.

Enter according to your urban age class. Some classes may run the same course however this has not yet been decided. Seniors may ‘run up’ if they wish to compete in that category. Juniors must run their appropriate age class (until their 16th birthday after which they may choose to ‘run up’ on Senior classes). These classes are Pre-Entry only. Please note that whilst we will do our best to honour entrants’ requested start time blocks, we reserve the right to change them if circumstances require.

We have included a category for our Grander Veterans over 85 and hope to welcome you.

We are also offering 3 courses for those who wish to run together, families, newcomers, the injured and those who prefer to ‘run down’ for any other reason. These are called Short, Medium and Long. If you plan to go round together, enter just once, not for each member of the group. Short will be car-free and suitable for children (the same or similar to the Young Junior courses but open to pairs, groups or to those being shadowed). Medium and Long will be the same technical standard and interest as the urban classes (likely paired with shorter urban classes from the senior races). Pre-Entry (preferred) and Entry On The Day is available for these courses.
