Hindhead Orienteering at the Punchbowl

Saturday 24th February

Black Down & Hindhead Supporters of the National Trust are delighted to be teaming up with the Southern Navigators orienteering club to offer this orienteering event from the Devil's Punchbowl, on Hindhead Common. Fun for all the family, young or old, novice or experienced.
Orienteering offers a timed challenge to navigate between control points that are marked on a specially produced map. You choose when you want to start (start times are from 10am to 11:30). At the Start you get issued with your map and you are then on your own (or you can enter as a small group), walking or running to each control point on your course. Map navigation is the essence of the sport, but you can do it with any level of fitness or energy as you wish - you needn't treat it as a race (though some undoubtedly will!).

There are 2 novice courses to choose from, see below. You can pre-enter online here (see above right, or if you are viewing this on a small screen such as a smartphone it may be below) for which you need an account with Racesignup. To create a new account sign in with your email address and it will take you to the new user registration page.

Experienced orienteers can enter other courses via the Southern Navigators racesignup page for this event.

You can also come along on the day and enter then. However, because each entrant's orienteering map has to be printed in advance, it is possible that the maps could run out and entry to those courses would have to close early. By pre-entering you can make sure that you get in to do the course of your choice.

You can amend (or withdraw) your entry online until midday Thursday 22nd February. After that please contact the organiser (contact email below) for amendments.

And feel free to ask any questions as well...

Please note that there are 4 other courses available to be entered as well as these Novice courses. Go to Southern Navigators racesignup page for this event.

There are 2 courses you can enter from this web page, which are for those who haven't done any (or only very little) orienteering before.

The course lengths shown are provisional. The length is the straight line distance on the map, so the distance you go will be slightly longer - though if you misread the map you might go a lot further...

Novice-Short 1.7km
Entry limit: 15
Entered: 6

Novice-Long 3.2km
Entry limit: 15
Entered: 6

Entry Fees
£6 Adult (aged 21 or over on 31/12/2024)
£3 Junior (under 21 on 31/12/2024)

A group orienteering the course together only pays one entry fee. Please use the age of the youngest member of the group for a group entry to get the best entry fee for the group.

Note that each entry includes one map.

If you are entering as a group and would like more maps so that everyone has their own map, extra maps can be purchased for £1 each.
