Come along for an exciting Urban Night Orienteering experience! Part of the Wessex Night League

60 minute Score event at night. Based in Larkhill Garrison. Pre-entry is mandatory.

Event Information

Directions
Parking in the Packway Officers’ Mess Car Park.
(what 3words: ///arranger.flask.purist) SP4 8QY. Take the road left to Larkhill, off the A345 at the first roundabout, north of the Countess Roundabout on the A303, north of Amesbury. The Officers’ Mess is on the left hand side at the west end of Larkhill.
Registration will be inside the Officers’ Mess – this is their home so please act
accordingly. No shoes to be worn in the building after your run.

Security/ Safety
The competition area is a working military establishment and therefore no mobile
phones or bags are allowed during your run.
Hi Viz tops are required plus a good head torch (and a spare light!)
Competitors are responsible for their own safety. The roads in this area are generally
quiet. Caution and care must be taken when crossing all roads.

Map/Area
Map: Conventional Urban Orienteering Map, updated in Jul 2022, 1:10000 overprinted with score (large numbers) and control codes (smaller, in brackets)

Terrain: Typical Military Camp, with roads, footpaths, open areas with some runnable wooded areas. Some ground may be soft and slippery

Score course - 30 controls
One hour Score: collect as many controls (out of 30) as you can.
You gain points for each control visited but you lose 10 points per minute – or part minute over the hour. Points per control may vary from 10 to 50 points, so check your map and plan your route before you start. Bonus points (10 per minute under the hour) are available but ONLY if you manage to visit every control
Control Descriptions can be collected at the Start .
N.B. Juniors under 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult (over 18). Punching start

Hired SI Dibbers can be picked up in the Officers' Mess. Turn up for your allocated slot time, ready to run; those with their own Dibber, can go straight to the Start; otherwise, collect your Dibber and go to the Start. Sign in with the Start marshal & go! Everyone must report to Download (in the Mess) afterwards.

Conduct
Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

Acting as an ambassador of the sport of orienteering at all times and considering how your actions may appear in the eyes of landowners or members of the public;

Times
Arrival times: - 17.30 to 18.45.
Registration will be in the Officer Mess, opposite the main gate, Start and Finish are either side of the Main Gate so there is a short walk to and from the Start/Finish – follow tapes; take care crossing the main road and sign in at the Start.
Hired dibbers can be picked up from the Mess
The Controller will be at the Start if you have any queries.

Starts: - 18.00 to 19.00. Control Descriptions will be available at the Start.
Start is about 250m from the Mess - taped route,the tapes back to the Main car park.
Please do not crowd around the Start control - sign in with the Start team; Clear & check your dibber; then take a map and Punch the Start control. The other controls are SIAC enabled.

Course closes: - promptly at 20:00 please. Control collectors - come to the Planner in the Mess at 19.50, please.

Facilities
Toilets will be available in the Officers' Mess; Limited First Aid only - be prepared to self administer. No water at the event, so please bring your own.

Dogs
Dogs are welcome in the Car park - not in the Mess or on the Urban course

Timing System
SIAC enabled controls with gripples. Hired dibbers are in the Mess

Finish and Download
After punching at the Finish - please follow tapes to Download, inside the Mess.
Please actually punch the Finish

Results
Results and Routegadget will be available via Racesignup and later on the Club website, hopefully by late Saturday or Sunday

Risk
Orienteering is an adventure sport; you are responsible for your own safety at the event and must not do anything that puts yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
