Juniors are under 21 on 31st December.

Students are competitors over the age of 20 still in full-time education. Please check STUDENT on the Entry Form if this applies.

Helpers are entitled to 50% discount on entry fee (please contact Organiser for discount code)

Novice Courses for Seniors are Yellow & Orange.

The GROUP category is to encourage competitors who want to run or walk with friends or family on one of the Novice Courses (Yellow or Orange).
You will be charged a single fee of £6.50 no matter how large your group is and will receive 2 maps. Don't forget to hire an EMIT card if you do not own one. FOR SECURITY AND INSURANCE PURPOSES, YOU MUST PROVIDE THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP ON THE ENTRY FORM.

GROUP entries are not available on Green or Blue Courses. If you want to run with someone else on one of the more technical courses, you must enter as an INDIVIDUAL and would be deemed non-competitive.

Discounts do not apply to EMIT hire (lost card charges £50)

Non-BOF entries will be charged an additional £1 to cover BOF levies.

Travel Directions
The Defence Academy, Shrivenham, nearest postcode for main gate SN6 8TQ. (What3Words:invented.plantings.certainly).
Turn off the A420 at the Watchfield roundabout and follow the signs to the Defence Academy. The Academy is accessed using the Main Entrance only.

Parking
Access will be strictly controlled. PHOTO ID will be required on the day for all personnel entering the establishment - the only exceptions will be juniors under the age of 16 accompanied by parent or guardian. Park initially in the visitors’ car park then proceed to Security where you will be photographed for an entry pass and given a car pass. You will then be guided in a marshalled convoy to the event car park. THERE WILL BE NO ACCESS FOR COMPETITORS UNTIL 10:15.

  • Registration will be in Beckett Pavilion which is 50m from the event car park.
  • Start will be 250m from the pavilion on a tarmac path.
  • Finish will be 100m from the pavilion.
  • Start Times
    Start times: 11:00 - 12:00
    Courses close: 14:00

  • It will be a punching start. No start times will be allocated
  • Facilities

  • Registration and download will be in Beckett Pavilion which sits in an enclosed grassy area
  • A fun children's activity will be available free of charge in registration/download area
  • Toilets with handwashing facilities will be available in the pavilion
  • There will be no refreshment facilities but entrants are welcome to bring packed lunches to eat at the picnic benches provided

    Refund Policy
    You may withdraw from the event up until 23:59 on 07-04-2024. Your entry fee will be held as a credit to be redeemed when you next enter an NWO event.

    Timing System
    The timing system being used is EMIT.

  • Competitors with their own EMIT card can proceed directly to the start
  • Hire cards can be picked up from the table next to download
  • Map
    Yellow course will be A4 1:4000 scale. Orange course will be A3 1:4000 scale. Green and Blue courses will be A3 1:7500 scale. Contours at 5m intervals. Updated December 2022. Out of Bounds areas to be strictly observed.
    Overprinted with course on waterproof paper with control descriptions on the front. Yellow and Orange courses will have written descriptions; Blue and Green have pictorial descriptions. Loose control descriptions for all courses will be available at the start.

    Terrain
    Mainly flat college campus urban area with some small wooded areas, streams and small lakes.

    Courses
    All course distances/climbs/controls are provisional and subject to final planning/controlling amendments.

    Hazards
    All courses cross roads on the campus. Road crossings will not be manned, but traffic should be light and is restricted to 20 mph. Courses run adjacent to a golf course where runners should beware of flying golf balls.

    Results
    Results, Splits and Routegadget will be available on the North Wiltshire Orienteers website as soon as practicable after the event

    Conduct
    Please make yourself aware of and abide by the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.

    Clothing and equipment

  • Yellow, Orange, and Green courses are mainly on roads and tracks but the Blue course will include some wooded areas where leg cover is advisable.
  • Whistles MUST be carried and will be checked at the start.
  • In adverse weather we may ask you to wear a cagoule or similar waterproof top
  • Dogs
    NO DOGS are permitted in the Defence Academy grounds.

    Safety

  • All competitors MUST report to Download even if retiring from the event.
  • Car keys may be left at registration. If you are travelling alone, you must leave your car keys at registration.
  • Participants to bring their own water and ensure adequate hydration pre and post event.
  • Orienteering is a physically challenging sport, and competitors take part at their own risk.
  • The nearest A&E Hospital is at Swindon Great Western Hospital SN3 6BB.

    Insurance
    The British Orienteering insurance policy provides public liability cover for all competitors registered for this event.

    Medical Conditions
    If you have a high risk medical condition you want the organisers to be aware of please download and complete this form and place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it. This can be left at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if required for a medical emergency. Unopened envelopes should be collected after the event. Any unclaimed envelopes will be destroyed after the event.

    Personal Information
    The personal data you give when you enter will be used by the event organisers and their agents, but only for the purpose of processing/publishing entries/results, conducting safety checks and as required by our insurers to validate our cover and managed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

    Cancellation Policy
    NWO will make every effort to ensure the event goes ahead as planned. However, should the event be cancelled, NWO reserves the right to retain part of the advance entry fees to meet costs already incurred or committed.
