Introduction
Event 3 of the HAVOC/SOS Summer 2024 street O series
The event will form part of HAVOC/SOS Mid-Week Summer O League. Points will be awarded based on finishing times adjusted using an age/gender handicap system. Each missed or incorrect control will incur a 5-minute penalty. Best 6 results from the 8-event series will count. Anytime catch-up for some events available for 2 weeks after the event, on MapRun. Bonus points for running on the night compared to Anytime. Full results will be emailed via RaceSignUp and published on the SOS and HAVOC websites.
The event will be run strictly in accordance with published BOF and Government guidance. It is a condition of entry that participants agree to follow the BOF COVID19 Participant Code of Conduct.
Participation is at your own risk. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions. As with any street orienteering you are required to cross roads and you are asked to take due care and attention at all times. High visibility clothing is strongly recommended. There may be dog walkers, cyclists or residents on pavements and footpaths – be aware and give them priority. Some roads do not have pavements so take extra care.

Competitors may park in the pub car park and registration will be in the pub. Start & Finish will be at large Deers Rest pub sign outside the pub.
Directions: Follow the A12 westbound inside the M25 towards Romford. After 2 ½ miles beyond the M25, turn right at the Gallows Corner (A12/A127) roundabout onto Straight Road. After 1 mile northwards turn right at the roundabout onto Noak Hill Road. Go straight ahead eastwards at the next roundabout and then a half mile later the Deers Rest pub is on your left
Times
Start at times between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Competitors must report to the finish by 9pm.
Course Info
Long Course 16 controls 6.8km Short Course 13 controls 4.3km.
These are direct line distances – optimal route will be longer, approximately 9km for long and 5.5 km for short.
Map: OOM urban Scale 1:10,000 (Long), 1:7,500 (Short)
Controls will mostly be fire hydrants; will likely also use other street furniture or home made signs. You need to record the lower number on fire hydrants; where otherwise it will be made clear.
