Event Information

WSX & WIM are running a series of summer events consisting of 6 maprun (virtual) events (each lasting one month) and 6 physical (SI control) events. This is the third physical event in the WSX/WIM Summer Series for 2024. Event centre is The Bankes Arms Hotel, in Corfe Castle with food and drink available. Start and Finish
Start times are 18.00 - 19.00
Courses close 20.10 (when we will start to collect controls in)

The start and finish will be in the same place, about 250m from the Bankes Arms. The route to/from it involves crossing the main road through Corfe, though this can be done safely using the pedestrian crossing near the Inn. The finish will not be manned after the last person has started.

Timing
The SI controls will be in contactless mode except for the start and finish ones that must be physically punched. Large kites will be for most controls on Corfe Common with small ones in the urban area.
Dibber (SI Card 5) hire is available for £1 (£30 if lost)
Printed Score showing splits will be provided at download.
Results will be available on-line later on the same night.

Terrain
Corfe Common is fairly open and rather undulating. Certain parts can be rather muddy if the weather has recently been wet. It will be possible to compete in shorts if you do not mind risking the occasional scratch to your legs !

You may come across horses or sheep on parts of the course. They are quite used to passing people but do not get too close to them especially if they have any of their young with them.

Parking
The Inn does have a small car park but this may well be full, in which case you should use the town car park (what3words trio.prices.recur). This costs 50p per 30min but is free after 18.00

Map
The map is A4 at 1:7500. It was professionally produced by Ben Mitchell in 2022 and has been updated for this event. The map does not have a legend but standard orienteering symbols have been used. Olive green and red crossed areas are Out of Bounds and any thick black lines are walls that should not be crossed.

Course and Score Information
Senior Course
A 60 min score event with 30 controls. Controls 41-50 are 10 points, 51-60 are 20 points and 61-70 are 30 points. 10 min penalty for every minute (or part thereof) you are late back. Both points and control code will be shown on the map.
The course will involve a mixture of of urban running, fields and Corfe Common. About 80% of the running will be off road. Reaching two controls will involve crossing the main road through Corfe; this can be busy so please take care. Unaccompanied under 16s may not compete on the Senior course.

Junior course
A 60 min score event with 21 controls which are a subset of those used on the senior course. There are 7 controls with each of the three different points values. The course will be almost entirely on fields or Corfe Common, although (depending on route choice) one quiet residential road may have to be crossed.
The junior map has a number of thick purple lines showing regions that runners must not enter, though the course has been planned so that there is no advantage going there anyway.
Scoring
You have 60 minutes from the Start to Finish via as many of the 30 controls as you can (total value 600 points).
You gain points for each control visited but you lose 10 points per minute – or part minute over the hour.
Points per control may vary from 10 to 30 points as described above, so check your map and plan your route before you start.
Bonus points (10 per minute under the hour) are available but ONLY if you manage to visit every control.

Food Options
Here's a link to the Bankes Arms menu. If you want to eat there, you can place an order before you go out on your run, saying when you'll be back
