Controls are fire hydrant signs. This is a score event whereby controls can be 'collected' in any order and are assigned different points depending on location.
1-10 are valued at 10 points,
11-20 at 20 points,
21-30 at 30 points and
31at 40 points.
You are time limited. For the long course 60 minutes & short course 40 minutes. Exceeding these times will collect a penalty of 10 points per minute (or part thereof).
Location
The event start and finish is at The Flyer, Dickens Place, Chelmsford, CM1 4UU
Parking in the supermarket car park has been agreed by the store manager of Morrisons adjacent to The Flyer. Please avoid using the pub’s car park, as there is limited space and ANPR is in use. Car drivers may want to be aware of the numerous speed & traffic signal cameras on the main roads through Chelmsford, especially if approaching from the south.
The Flyer pub is about 2 miles from Chelmsford rail & bus stations if walking.
The C2 bus (amongst others) stops close to The Flyer. Anyone considering this option is advised to visit https://www.firstbus.co.uk/essex/routes-and-maps/network-maps
Location of start: What3Words: ///chucked.opera.move
Timing
Start at times between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Starts will not be preallocated.
Competitors must report to the finish by 8.45pm
Event information
Open Orienteering Map style. 1:10,000
There will be a small number of updates made to the open-source map, however participants must be prepared for the existence of minor discrepancies. Note that schools are marked in pink and are out of bounds; any fences marked on the map should be considered uncrossable. Please note that the map which will be visible on your phone will not show the updates and out of bounds markings, these are only shown on the paper map.
Download the course onto the Maprun app by clicking on ‘Select Event' in the app, and following the menu path UK > Essex > Chelmsford Oct24
The course maps will not be visible on your phone until you receive the PIN number at Registration on the night. (Note – you do not need the PIN number to run using a Garmin watch). There are no written answers required with MapRun and your result will be automatically downloaded when you finish. However, if the app doesn't register your visit, then you need to record the lower number on the H sign. If unsure, the full procedure will be explained at Registration.
Please ensure you notify the Organiser that you have finished, so that safety checks can be completed.
If you are unable or prefer not to use MapRun, you are still welcome to take part by completing the control sheet with pen or pencil recording the lower number on the H sign (N.B. this is a slower method). With this approach, timing will be manually by a traditional clock, and written answers will be checked as per previous events. If you are not using MapRun, then please bring a pencil to mark the control card and a map bag if wet.
Facilities
There are toilet facilities in the pub at the start/finish.
Participants are warmly invited to join us after at The Flyer for post run rehydration and discussion. Food served until 9pm. £5 discount available for signing up to their emails in advance.

Safety
Participation is at your own risk. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
Bring clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather conditions.
As with any street orienteering this requires participants to cross roads and you are asked to take due care and attention at all times. It will not be necessary to cross roads with a limit above 30mph, however not all drivers observe this speed, especially on Broomfield Road, so please take care. Roads with a 40/ 60mph speed limit are out of bounds.
There is street lighting on all roads within the built up areas, but not on all footpaths and a very small number of controls at the edges of the map. Footpaths may be very dark, narrow, uneven/ muddy. TAKE CARE
Sunset is at 18:32. You will be running in twilight and you are advised to carry head/hand held torch particularly if you have a late start. High visibility clothing is strongly recommended.
There may be dog walkers, cyclists, scooters or residents on pavements, cycleways and footpaths – be aware and give them priority.
