Event number 6 in the Dorset 2025 Summer League

WSX & WIM are running a series of summer events consisting of 6 maprun (virtual) events (each lasting one month) and 6 physical (SI control) events. This is the 6th and final physical event in the Dorset 2025 Summer League. Event centre is The Queens Head, in Burley with food and drink available. The course is a 60 minute straight score of 30 controls (no "odds and evens" or other variations) using SIAC enabled SI control stations with O kites. There will be a range of points values for the controls (totalling 600) which will be printed prominently on the map, followed by the control code in brackets.
To guarantee a map you must enter by 23:59 on Wednesday 3rd September.

Event Information

Start and Finish
Start times are 17.30 - 18.15
Courses close 19.15 (when we will start to collect controls in)

The Start and Finish will be within about 250m of the pub with a walk along the pavement. Care must be taken when crossing the road outside the pub. The Finish will not be manned.

Timing
The SI controls will be in contactless mode except for the start and finish ones that must be physically punched.
Dibber (SI Card 5) hire is available for £1 (£30 if lost)
Printed Score showing splits will be provided at download.
Results will be available on-line later on the same night.

Parking
The Queen's Head may appear to have a separate car park but it is now effectively just a part of the larger Pay and Display council car park next door, except that it does not have a 2.1m height restriction. This costs about 1.50p per hour until 18.00. Use this link for latest exact details. N.B. It might still be possible to redeem your car parking charge at the bar when you order food.

Map/Terrain
The map is 1:7500, A3, and consists of a combined section from the more up-to-date Holmsley map and the much older Bisterne Close map. The latter has been selectively updated in 2025 for this event but there are some slight anomalies where the maps were joined. Hopefully, this will not cause too much concern for competitors. The combined area consists of woodland, heath and rural settlements around Bisterne Close. In one section of the wood north of this there are a couple of areas of really complex broken ground, interspersed with more obvious depressions. It is only the latter that have been mapped amongst/near the broken ground symbol.

Full leg cover is recommended as the bracken etc. will still be quite prominent in places. Check for ticks afterwards!

Course and Score Information
The course will include one road crossing with a control close to either side. Both points and control code will be shown on the map.
You have 60 minutes from the Start to Finish via as many of the 30 controls as you can (total value 600 points).
You gain points for each control visited but you lose 10 points per minute – or part minute over the hour.
Points per control may vary from 10 to 30 points as described above, so check your map and plan your route before you start.
Bonus points (10 per minute under the hour) are available but ONLY if you manage to visit every control.

Food Options
if you want to eat after the event, the pub would appreciate knowing in advance what you would like. Here's a link to the Queen's Head menu
There is a question on the entry form for you to indicate your food choice(s) when signing up, ideally before September 5th. No commitment is implied and you can change your choice up until the 5th Sept.
