Event Information
Directions
The event will be based at IBM Hursley in the Deep South car park. By car, enter the site from the A3090 at either entrace. From the North entrance, drive up the hill and turn left at the mini roundabout. From the South entrance, turn right at the IBM sign. There will be a control hung at the entance to the car park at https://w3w.co/emails.unpacked.thrones). By public transport, take the 66 bus from Winchester or Romsey and alight at the Kings Head. Walk up past the church onto the IBM site.
Map/Area
The map will be 1:4,000 on waterproof paper with 2.5m contours overprinted with control codes followed by point values in brackets, e.g. "186 (10)". The area is a mixture of the open parkland and buildings of the IBM site and Hursley village, separated by a thin strip of woodland.

Black crosses on the map are mostly wooden exercise equipment, but there is also one significant hide in the woods. Black circles are mostly benches, but may also be security cameras or raised manhole covers.

There is a gravel track that runs around the southern perimiter of the IBM site. One section of this is closed due to heavy erosion and is marked as out of bounds. You may also encounter a couple of signs indicating that the lawn area south of Hursley house is closed to the public - you may ignore these. Whilst you will run past them, this is a commercial site and IBM requests that you do not attempt to look into any of the buildings.

There is building work at the church in the village (marked as out of bounds). Note that the footpath that runs along behind the churchyard is still accessible, despite the metal fencing at the northern end.
Course
1 hour score event. There are 20 controls worth 10 points, 5 worth 20 points, and 5 worth 25 points, giving a total of 30 controls worth 425 points.

There is then a further 5 points available for each even numbered control code that you visit at the end of your run. For example, if you had scored 200 points, and your last three controls were 201-206-188, you would get an additional 10 points. It follows that to get the maximum of 500 points, you need to visit the 15 odd controls, before the 15 even controls. Note that the bonus points are available even if you don't get all of the controls, and that you still score the points given for each control, whatever order you visit them in.

10 points will be deducted for every minute, or part minute, that you are late back over 60 minutes. In the event that a competitor gets all 500 points (not just all of the controls) in under 60 minutes, they will get an extra 5 points for every complete minute under the hour.

Hired dibbers will be made available at registration. Controls will be SIAC-enabled, but it is a punching start and finish.

Everyone must report to download.
Conduct
Please make yourself aware of, and abide by, the British Orienteering Participant Code of Conduct.
Timing
Registration: 17:45 to 18:45
Starts: 18:00 to 19:00
Courses close: promptly at 20:00
Facilities
Registration and download will be in a campervan in the middle of the south edge of the car park. The start will be adjacent to that, and the finish on the eastern corner of the car park. There will be no toilets available here.

You may then walk or drive to The Dolphin. If eating food, please order food from the main menu by Sunday 15th February at the latest. Contact details are on the pub's website (email is recommended). Please let them know that you are part of the orienteering group and what time you would like to eat.
Safety
All competitors must wear hi-viz tops and have sufficient lights to complete their course. Please take care when crossing any road or carpark. The Hursley site roads are theoretically 20 mph, and the main road through Hursley 30 mph, but that doesn't mean everyone adheres to the limit.

Off paths there may be roots and other tripping hazards to be aware of. Trail shoes are recommended due to the mix of paved and unpaved areas. The footpaths in the woods have, unfortunately, become particularly muddy in recent weeks.

All juniors under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Dogs
Dogs are allowed on the courses, but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.
